Some Of The Important Factors To Consider When Choosing Children's Shoes

Choosing shoes for children can be a little more difficult than choosing shoes for ourselves to say the least. Most kids don't like shopping for shoes to begin with and if you are shopping for children under the age of 5 or so it is even tougher because they really don't know how to communicate well enough in many cases to let you know if the shoes feel good or if they are uncomfortable.

Shopping for shoes with kids can be fun but it can also be frustrating. Never underestimate the ways that they will twist things to get the shoes they like over the ones you may have chosen. I know when my son was small he would feign discomfort and pain when trying on a pair of shoes that I had chosen for him while acting as if he could run a 10 flat hundred meters in the ones he liked!

There are some simple guidelines to help you be sure that you are choosing the right shoes for your child. First off, you should be able to easily slip the shoe on the child's foot without loosening the laces or really putting pressure on the foot to get it in. If this is the case the shoes are too small. Conversely, if your child is walking in the shoes and the shoe is moving or the heel is slipping the shoes are big. Another common method of course is to press down on the area of the shoe just above the end of the toes. You are looking for just a slight amount of space between the end of the toe and the shoe. If the shoes are too tight it can cause pain and discomfort and can even lead to conditions such as ingrown toenails.

With a children's shoe you are looking for a fit that is a little snug but not too snug. Children's feet are constantly growing so you want to be sure that you leave a little room for that so that you aren't buying new shoes every month. It is crucial that you do not leave too much room however as this can cause injuries as well due to improper support.

If your child really likes the fit of a certain shoe you may want to consider buying multiple pairs of that same shoe. Another smart thing to do is to look for manufacturers that offer guarantees. With children's shoes there are many shoe makers that will give a guarantee of replacement of the shoes if they wear out before the child grows out of them. This can save you a great deal of money.
